In keeping with the historic Paramount and State Theatres’ mission of making theatre accessible
to the widest possible audience, I invite you to make a donation in support of our youth outreach program.

Our youth outreach program engages children throughout Central Texas and challenges them
to see theatre as not only entertaining, but also as educational.

By bridging the gap between the educational community (which has deemphasized the arts in
an era of high stakes testing) and the theatre community (which can provide a unique approach
to teaching literacy, Texas State academic standards, and engaging diverse learning styles),
we can approach child development holistically and produce students that are more
self-confident, empathetic, creative, and well-rounded.

With the support of patrons like you, we have developed six key programs that will best utilize
the resources of the Theatres in support of a child’s cultural and curricular education.

Skinny's Gallery

 

Skinny’s Gallery: Provides free tickets, study guides, snacks, and transportation as needed to community and school groups who help serve children throughout Central Texas.

School Shows

 

School Matinee Performances: Nine-thousand children (80% from at-risk / Title I schools) will be attending our matinee performances scheduled specifically for class room attendance and includes study guides tailored to State tests. Preshow workshops conducted in classrooms further connect the play to what children are learning in school.

Camp Paramount Kids on Stage

 

Camp Paramount: Each summer the Paramount Theatre brings Camp Paramount to Austin. This week long acting/theatre camp is open to everyone and no previous theatre experience is required. It is a great opportunity for youth to gain hands-on theatre experience and teamwork.

Literacy to Life

 

Literacy to Life: A school-based residency and literacy program that encourages student writing which is then performed by professional actors for the entire school.

Youth Theatre Company

 

Youth Theatre Company:  Twenty low income students will have a paid, summer job to write, produce, and tour a production.

Teaching the TEKS Through Theatre

 

Teaching The TEKS Through Theatre (T5): Meet specific needs of a school’s curriculum through the use of drama techniques including taking on roles of characters in literature, learning vocabulary through movement and gestures, and reenacting situations based on historical events and places.

Through the combination of connecting a student’s everyday classroom activities to theatre, and our on-site programming, we can delight, educate, motivate and inspire the next generation of Austin theatre goers.
