Bwakaw Dogs may be every man’s best friend, but in this humorous heartwarmer, perpetually crotchety silver fox Rene (Filipino megastar Eddie Garica) is convinced that canine companion Bwakaw is the only pal he needs. Bwakaw faithfully follows Rene around their small Philippine town as he spars with the befuddled locals and matches the campy queens at the beauty salon quip for quip. A gay man who came out late in life, Rene has never acted on his desires, but when burly taxi driver Sol pulls into his life, he begins to rethink his irascible ways, imagining a more sociable future for him and Bwakaw. Brimming with unexpected humor and a wonderful humanity, it’s no surprise that BWAKAW was selected as the Filipino entry for Best Foreign Language Film to the 2012 Academy Awards.

About Polari Film Festival:

Polari Film Festival Program entertains our community through the exhibition and support of the best in recent LGBTQIA international, national, and regional films. The festival showcases features and shorts, in addition to mainstream, and avant-garde films. Festival events connect members of the community. Symposia and panels explore current political and social trends; and increasingly the festival serves as a venue for first-time filmmakers. Special shorts programs have focused on the issues faced by LGBTQI youth, immigration of LGBTQI people, gender identity and expression, adoption, marriage, military service, religion, racial identity, cultural issues, and hate crimes against LGBTQI-identified people.

The Polari Film Festival takes place this October 16–20, 2013 at local theaters in Austin, Texas. The festival features innovative programming expressing a continued dedication to inclusivity.

During the 5 days of the Film Festival over a hundred narrative, documentary, experimental and digital media works will screen. The selections are chosen from hundreds of submissions from all over the world, resulting in a juried and awarded program that is approximately 30% international.
