Brooklyn Barbieri-Henson

Director of Communications

How long have you worked at the Paramount? Almost 10 years!

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? Like every native central Texan, A Tuna Christmas

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? A tie between Chris Isaak, Wynonna and Melissa Etheridge

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? Houdini Martini

Favorite Paramount memory so far? I’ve been so lucky to get to perform with my band and my husband, Weldon Henson’s, band at numerous Paramount events. But getting to open for Bonnie Raitt at the 2015 Anniversary gala on the historic Paramount stage takes the cake. Dressing up like a female Elvis and doing a full Elvis cover set prior to a week long run of Tuna Does Vegas is a close second.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? Brandi Carlile

What you wish more people knew about the Paramount theatre or our programs? I wish more people knew about our Literacy to Life Program. Our team of Paramount Story Wranglers goes out to elementary schools all year long to work with kids on their creative writing and then transforms these children’s stories into skits that are performed in front of the entire school. The little kids start to consider themselves true writers and are FILLED with pride and confidence as their story comes to life. Numerous teachers have reported that their students’ reading, writing and overall performance at school improved after the time they spent with our Story Wranglers.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at the theatres? Spend as much time as possible with my 1 year old baby girl, dance and sing in the Texas dancehalls, cooking, the outdoors, some event planning and volunteering for other non-profits like Austin Pets Alive, exercise and all that other good stuff.

Paige Deegan

Associate Director of Membership

How long have you worked at the Paramount? A total of 5+ years, first as a Grant Writer, and in my current position as the Associate Director of Membership.

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? My first show was Bon Iver – it was amazing.

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? I think my favorite show here was Elvis Costello, when he played the gala. I grew up listening to Elvis Costello, and I had never had a chance to see him live. It was a pretty nostalgic evening for me!

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? Red Wine

Favorite Paramount memory so far? I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but the Paramount turned 100 this year (it’s a little-known fact!). All joking aside, though, getting to be a member of the Paramount staff during the theatre’s 100th birthday was something I’ll always be proud of. Re-building the blade was a labor of love for everyone, and we all really bonded as a staff throughout the year-long celebration.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? Jeff Tweedy / Wilco

What you wish more people knew about the Paramount theatre or our programs? How important the whole community is to keeping this place running every day!

What do you like to do when you aren’t at the theatres? Spend time with my family and cook elaborate meals.

Brian Fahey

Associate Director of Education & Outreach

How long have you worked at the Paramount? I started full time as the Associate Director of Education and Outreach in August of 2014, but I have been a Story Wrangler since 2009.

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? Jaws during the Summer Classic Film Series a few years back. I grew up in a small beach town in New England and was obsessed with sharks and Jaws when I was a kid. I have a Jaws themed bathroom at my house here in Austin with posters and prints on the walls. Seeing it on the big screen with an audience full of fans was very special and a great introduction to the Paramount!

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? Tig Notaro’s stand up during fall of 2014. I went to see Matt Bearden open as I’m a loyal listener of the Dudley and Bob with Matt Show on KLBJ, but Tig blew me away. She was hilarious, poignant, and dry. I left as a big fan and look forward to the next time Moontower brings her back!

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? Maker’s Mark and Ginger Ale. Always with popcorn.

Favorite Paramount memory so far? 60 kids doing the Time Warp on the Paramount Stage with their parents dancing in the aisles during the finale of Camp Paramount: Broadway Rocks in the summer of 2014. Camp Paramount is an opportunity for Austin youth to spend a part of their summer at the Paramount learning about musical theatre and ultimately performing a musical variety show on the Paramount stage. My first two weeks on the job were spent co-directing Camp Paramount: Broadway Rocks and it was a blast!

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? My answer to this question used to be David Bowie and the Paramount would have been a great stage for him. Sigh. But so great artists come to mind! Let’s get Annie Lennox here to play the Gala. How great would that be!

What you wish more people knew about the Paramount theatre or our programs? We’re known for our historic and beautiful venues but we also have a thriving Department of Education and Outreach. The Paramount Academy for the Arts serves over 22,000 Austin area youth, many through programs that happen directly in their classroom. We also have our own Facebook page so you search “Paramount Academy for the Arts” and “like” it.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at the theatres? When I’m not at the theatres I’m probably in the classroom facilitating one of our programs or hanging with my dog Truman, a 4 year old puggle (pug-beagle mix).

Manager of Patron Services

How long have you worked at the Paramount? 2 fun-filled entertaining years!

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? 7th grade when I saw a Tuna Christmas.

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? I will break this answer down into three categories – comedy, spoken word, and music – because, how else could I answer this question?! Comedy – Tim Minchin, Spoken Word – the Moth Podcast, and Music – Patty Griffin, who is my all-time favorite!

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? Bourbon! On the rocks or in an old-fashioned.

Favorite Paramount memory so far? Definitely our blade-lighting centennial celebration. Not only did we get to see the blade delivered and installed, I got to screw in multiple lightbulbs into the sunburst on top! And, the night the blade was lit for the first time, I was able to celebrate with my family, best friends, and fantastic coworkers followed by an incredible Patty Griffin show. It was truly a magical night.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? Adele, Bon Iver, Nickel Creek, or a stripped down Dixie Chicks show.

Kathryn Legendre

Designer & Web Coordinator

How long have you worked at the Paramount? Coming up on 3 years.

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? The first show I ever saw in the theatre was Aziz Ansari.

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? So far, my favorite performance at the theatres has been seeing Sarah Jarosz with the Milk Carton Kids. All three of them sang a song without any mics or amplification and the sounds captured in the auditorium were overwhelmingly beautiful. It was a show that was truly felt and I believe the Paramount was made for moments like that.

Favorite Paramount memory so far? For one, having the President (Obama) visit and speak was potentially a once-in-a-lifetime event for me. Technically, I was a White House employee for a day. Another moving moment was on September 23, 2015, when we lit our newly-restored Paramount blade in celebration of our 100th anniversary. Having a small hand in preserving Austin history is something for which I will always proud.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? I know it’s a long-shot, but I’d love to have King George (Strait) perform here one day!

What you wish more people knew about the Paramount theatre or our programs? That we have a Spotify account! Since music is another one of my biggest passions in life, I like to create playlists for all kinds of events happening at the theatres. Whether you’ve never heard of an artist before or you just want to jam out before a show, I’ve got you covered.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at the theatres? I also like to write and perform songs, and keep a music blog. If I’m not singing or at a Mayeux & Broussard show, you can find me two-stepping at the White Horse, traveling, at the green belt or outside in general.

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres?  Nick Offerman and Megan Mulally

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? A little glass of bubbly.

Favorite Paramount memory so far? Bubble skeet shooting.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? Trent Reznor

OR that our new Paramount Social Presents program will be offering lots of events and programming for the generation of Paramount patrons.

Scott Butler

Creative and Brand Manager

How long have you worked at the Paramount? Full time since 2010. In the shadows for many years before that.

What is the first show/film you ever saw at the Paramount? I saw North by Northwest during the Summer Classic Film Series in the early 90s, I think it was ’92.

What was your favorite show/film you’ve seen at the theatres? This changes in my mind constantly, but it might have to be Bonnie Raitt at the Gala a couple years ago.

What’s your favorite drink from the Paramount bar? Bourbon, rocks.

Favorite Paramount memory so far? One that always sticks out to me is seeing a coworker tear up as we listened to Chris Cornell do a Beatles cover during a sound check. We were all dumbfounded with how amazing it sounded.

A performer you hope to see one day on the Paramount stage? Cheesy answer, but I would love nothing more that to see my brother up there with either of his bands, Black Books or Reddening West.

What you wish more people knew about the Paramount theatre or our programs? This has to be about our education department. It’s getting more and more notoriety for the wonderful things they do in schools and here at the theatre, but I still think most of Austin doesn’t know just how amazing they are. The Story Wranglers represent what is so great about this city.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at the theatres? I have too many hobbies, but my favorite times are always simply laughing with my kids. They are brilliantly hilarious.
