The time has come to make some significant cinematic upgrades to Austin’s Paramount Theatre, and we need your help!

For decades, the Paramount has shown thousands of beloved movies on 35mm and 70mm film prints, and we are proud to say that we will continue to show on actual film until the very last print wears out. But, in order for the theatre to have complete access to the rich and varied library of classic movies, we need to add digital cinema capabilities to our repertoire. And, since significant modifications will need to be made to accommodate digital cinema at the Paramount, we know that now is the time to upgrade our speaker system and movie screen to provide you, the movie goer, with the best sound and brightest on-screen image every time you are at the Paramount!

Why support this upgrade? For starters, our digital cinema equipment will ensure that we will always be able to host the latest restorations of classic, foreign, and art-house films, many of which are only brought back to the screen through the digital medium. Additionally, the new speakers and screen will improve the entire cinematic experience at the Paramount, regardless of whether the movie is being shown digitally or on film. So you’ll begin experiencing the benefits of this project from the moment the first 35mm frame of CASABLANCA rolls this summer.

As you might imagine, this kind of project requires an investment from the community to help fund, and we’re counting on Austin’s film fans and Summer Classic Film Series lovers to contribute to the project. There aren’t many cities in the world lucky enough to have a 100-year-old, glorious movie palace that still screens movies regularly, but with your help, we can guarantee that the Paramount will continue to be the anchor venue for screening movies for centuries to come!
